Miner Mayhem match is New Mexico’s version of ‘Battle Bots’

SOCORRO, N.M. – Combining innovative engineering design with fierce competitive drive, middle and high school and collegiate teams from across the state will gather Saturday, April 29, for New Mexico’s own version of “Battle Bots.” 

New Mexico Tech will host Miner Mayhem, a daylong robot combat tournament, testing the mechanical creations’ design, speed, and agility. 

NMT’s Mechanical Engineering Department faculty and students will host the tournament, drawing dozens of enthusiastic students, teachers, faculty, family members, and robot fans. Collegiate teams from New Mexico Tech, New Mexico State University, Eastern New Mexico University, and the Colorado School of Mines will compete in separate weight classes  from teams from 12 high schools and six middle schools. The event will feature three-minute matches of bots in the 3 lb., 150 grams, and MESA weight classes.

The tournament will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the NMT campus between Weir and Cramer halls. Teams check in from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and the tournament begins at 11 a.m.
